Weekend News
Renata - I went sledding with my cousin. One thing is, I went sledding with a chicken. In one picture two chickens went down by themselves. I also play reindeer games. I saw something from the Grinch. I need a special key to open the door. The game was so tricky. I went to Target and I got my Barbie. It's not at home, it's in my mom's room. Me and my mom play in snow. We was rolling down the hill. My tongue stick out and I got snow in my mouth.
Elliott - I sled on a little hill and it was so funny we fell off. It didn't hurt cause we had some comfy pants on. We had our grandma's birthday. My cousin came too and we sled and made a snowman. We had a snowball fight and we throw snow at the window. We sled some more.
Lila - I built a igloo with mommy and my friends. We go in it and we build a snowman. We did a snowball fight out the window to Nora. I made a ice track. I made lots of snow angels. I made a snow castle with my bucket. No one went in cause it was so small. I made so many movies with my camera. I made the Eiffel tower with my bucket and snow.
Lake - I play on deck the snow. I play in my room and my stuffies. I play my sister. I go the K-pop store with mom, dad and my baby.
Masai - I was in my house and I was taking down my Christmas tree. My daddy was going to clean the snow. I play in snow with my cousin. I even do some activities. I did my coloring mat that I got for Christmas. I was even going to get some surprises for my mom when she come back from work. I hide my secret mission for my mommy.
Logan - I was at my grandma's house. I play my grandma then I went home. I play all day with my sister. I watch my i-pad. I eat some chicken and rice.
Colby - I go aquarium and then we go back home and take nap. I go walk around snow my mommy and my daddy and my baby. I build snow daddy. I made snowman.
Aya - I was going to the party with my mom and dad and my brother. It was nobody's birthday but we go to have some fun and my ballet teacher was there. I go to my aunty's house and I sleep there and I love my family.
Nat - Play snow with John. Play toys mommy. Eat apples.
Evie - I go skiing with Adelaide so I learn ski. I was to tired to do more ski lessons. I play dad in snow.
In Spanish class, we continued with Alicia reinforced last class' learning by introducing us to the Spanish names of some of the clothing we wear. Friends repeated after Alicia to begin the process of learning these new Spanish words. Alicia focus on clothing such as dress- vestido, skirt- falda, shirt - camisa and pants - pantalón. We finished class by playing a swatter game of listening for the article of clothing as Alicia called them out in Spanish. Friends then two at a time tapped on a picture they think matched the word being called with a swatter. Today it was Simone's turn to squeeze la vaca!
The Cardinals engaged in a math workshop today. Friends rotated through four stations in groups of 3-4 as they worked on Math concepts such as mental math - figuring out (which number comes after) for example after 2 comes 3, after 8 comes 9 or after 18 comes 19 and then saying the number out loud. Another station was working on recognizing numbers 1-5, 1-10, 1-20 or 1-25. The next station was thinking about and writing numbers (1-10 or 1-15) as a teacher called them out. The last station friends worked on putting numbers 1-10 in the correct number order, putting the numbers in a hop-scotch form and calling out the numbers as they step on numbers 1-10 and then 10-1. Some friends also worked on putting a floor number puzzle together. The Cardinal enjoyed this work and some mention it during our appreciation circle at the end of the day!
Wednesday
In Library class, Ashanti read us the books A Snow Day for Amos McGee by Philip C. Stead. This book was about a little boy who wanted a snow day but before he could enjoy his snow day. He had something to do. He needs to finish his knitting and deliver his knitted items to the animals at the zoo. The animals in return helped the boy shovel the snow at his house.
The next book was called The clothesline by Orbie. This book was about a little boy who did something that he wasn't supposed to do. He then tried to find ways to solve the problem he created. This book was very funny and had our Cardinals giggling as Ashanti read!! Soon it was time for our Cardinals to pick and check a book out to take back to our classroom. Ask your Cardinal why did you chose your book?
Today Simone led us into music class with Keisha! Friends had the joy of exploring with tall drums, scarves and egg shakers as we listened and danced to Eh la Bas by Jazzy Ash. Followed by friends singing, dancing and doing the movements to Cows, All Around the Kitchen and shiver. We finished up music class by listening to Keisha read the book Owl Moon and then we acted out the story. After our goodbye song, we head back to our classroom.
Thursday
Today we had a conversation with our Cardinals recapping "What do you want to learn more about?" Some friends decided to change their minds about the animal they had chosen before. Here is the update about what friends had to say:

Logan - From Mermaids - Fish - why fish don't have friends and how they eat food.
Grant - from Monkey - Narwal - why they have horns
Evie - Narwal - How they get horns.
Aya - Flamingo - How you feed them.
Elliott - Sharks - feeding them.
Lila - Unicorns - why they jump over rainbows (Princess - how they become Princess).
Renata - From Cats - Mermaids - how they swim and get their tail color.
Colby - From Dinosaurs - Bats - eat bugs or beetles
Lake - Cheetahs - how they run so super fast
Finley - From Whales -Bats - If they eat bugs that crawl on the ground.
Masai - From Bears - Werewolves - If they howl like foxes. What they eat.
Nat - Elephant - what eat
Today our work in gym class was focusing on basketballs. The Cardinals began to work on bouncing the ball, passing the ball to a partner, bouncing and catching the ball against their bodies. Tiffany lowered the basketball hoops and friends tried to make a basket! Friends did a great job throwing the ball up high and making hoops!! Way to go Cardinals! Ask your Cardinal what did you like about working with basketballs?
On our way back from gym class, we saw Adam moving snow from earlier this week in preparation for the snowstorm this weekend! The Cardinal loved seeing the backhoe in action! Adam beeped at us and then gave each Cardinal a chance to sit behind the wheel! Thank you, Adam! Ask your Cardinal how it felt sitting in the backhoe?
Friday
Alicia began Spanish class by going over the clothing we were already learning. Today Alicia introduced a few more pieces of clothing such as short -Pantalones cortos, shoes - Zapatos, Hat - Sombrero, Camisa - shirt, Sandalias - Sandals. Our Cardinals are remembering the clothing from last year and new friends are learning them as well! Alicia then read us the book Sparkle Boy by Leslea Newman. Today was Lila's turn to squeeze la vaca!
Today, we celebrate Nat's 3rd birthday. He brought in cupcakes to share with his friends! Nat's brother John and Mom Molly came to celebrate as well! Thank you, Nat, for sharing cupcakes and your family with us! Thank you, John and Molly for spending time with us! We hope you enjoy the rest of your special day Nat!!
