The Cardinals worked on designing their very own masterpieces in art class today. Friends used bottles of glue to first create a design on their paper. Johanna then gave out tiny beads. Friends used these beads to put on top of the glue. The final results were beautiful and impressive. This work of using glue bottles and tiny beads required using friends fingers muscles and working on their pinch grip. These masterpieces should be framed, they are so nice!!

Back in the classroom, we had snack time followed by morning meeting and then small group work. We set up three literacy stations in which friends rotated through. The Cardinals worked on recognizing uppercase letters, identifying letters sounds and writing letters that were called out in random order. We will make these groups smaller and do one on one work as well. Ask your Cardinal what they like about doing this work?

Tuesday

Alicia began class by going over our body parts in Spanish. Followed by a game of swatter then Canima (Walk). We walked around the classroom and then Alicia said, para (stop). She then pointed to a body part and friends said it is Spanish! Today it was Lake's turn to squeeze la vaca!

Renata's mom Phallon came to do an activity with us! First Phallon read the book How To Catch A Unicorn by Adam Wallace & Andy Elkerton. The story is told by a Unicorn! Next, Phallon told friends they were going to create their very own Unicorn traps. The Cardinals were very excited to get started! Friends worked with shoe boxes brought in by Phallon. They also used glue, small pom-poms, glitter glue, stickers, colorful tape and gems to make their traps most inviting to Unicorns. As friends worked their were very quiet as they focused on choosing the right items to decorate!! These Unicorn traps look so awesome. The Cardinals are going to catch many Unicorns!! Thanks, Renata, for sharing your mom with us!! Thanks, Phallon, for reading and sharing this activity with us!!

Wednesday

Due to the rain this morning, the Cardinals, Hummingbirds or Catbirds did not walk over to our Meeting House for our debut with the rest of lower school. So, we had our meeting for worship time together in the music room. We all settle into silence, followed by a teacher reading the book, You're Here For A Reason by Nancy Tillman. We settled back in for a few more minutes and then finished by singing Peace Like A River.

Ashanti read us the books The Big Pest by Lane Smith and If We Were Dogs by Sophie Blackall. The Cardinals had much to say about these books - who had a cat, dog or fish, if the dogs were big or small. The colors of their cat/s and if they could get a pet what pet they would want! Each friend then chose and checked out a book to bring back to our classroom!
