Art Class
Johanna began class by checking in to see how the Cardinals were doing! She then had the Cardinals shop at tables for art supplies they wanted to create with such as cardboard, stickers, ribbons, string paper, stencils, color tape and different color paper. Once sitting at a table friends used markers, fancy scissors, glue and hole punchers. The end creative masterpieces were amazing!
The question came up today, "Can you paint with water?"
Here is what our Cardinals had to say:
Lake - No, cause you don't have any color.
Masai - No, because it wouldn't be colorful.
Renata - No, it just makes no color.
Simone - No, you can't see any colors.
Colby - Yes, you can make color.
Evie - It would be hard cause you can't make any shapes.
Grant - I can make colors
Elliott - Yes, it can make paint.
Nat - Cause all the colors mix together.
Logan - Yes, it could show what picture you make.
Finley - I really don't think you can.
Aya - You can make your own color with water.
Lila - Well, yes cause you can make watercolors.
We then went outside armed with water and paint brushes. Here is what friends had to say while discovering:
Nat - Paint door.
Aya - I paint AYA (writing her name) on the wall.
Grant - It turn colors
Evie - First, I paint the rock. The water is dirty.
Masai - I made my sister's name see MAELLE over here. I also paint that wood.

After playing on the playground, we went back to check on our water paintings. Here is what friends had to say:
They disappear
Beverly took them
It melted
It dried out
The house dried up and now it's light red.
All our water paintings dried up.
The question was then asked, "Why did it dry up?"
I know the sun dried it up cause it a sunny day.
It was a long time ago that why it's gone.
Cause we wasn't out here and the sunny took it away.
I think the wind dried it up.
The grass rub on it and it went away.
The sun was hot and it just disappeared.
Tuesday
Spanish Class
The Cardinals count from Uno to Trece as Alicia point to each friend going down the line. Friends were very quick to say their number in Spanish! The Cardinals are also learning how to count by 10s to 100 in Spanish class. While going over the body parts of animals, friends made connections about which body parts we (human) have, that animals also have! Today it was Masai's turn to squeeze la vaca!
Back in our classroom, friends worked on creating individual flowers for our back window. Each Cardinal used their creative skills to design and then fine motor and focus skills to cut out their flower upon completion. Nice work Cardinals!!
Friends also began the first step of our habitat work. Each Cardinal decided if they wanted a closed box (habitat) or open, base on what their animal is and lives. Teachers then used gorilla tape to secure the boxes. Stay Tune!!
Wednesday
We walked with our second grade buddies over to the meetinghouse. After settling into silence, Andrea read us a book. Followed by more silence and then Raji playing his guitar as we all sang This little light of mine! As we walked back over to lower school our Cardinals were seen holding hands with their buddies or having conversations!! What a wonderful sight to see!!
Library Class
Today Ashanti read Little Red Bird by Nick Bruel a rhyming book. As Ashanti read, friends needed to figure out which word rhymes with the words from the book! The Cardinals give this book 2 thumbs up! At the end of this book Ashanti asked, "What would you do, stay in the cave or fly away? The Cardinals had much to say! The next book was The Green Frog by Yumi Heo. Friends then chose and checked out a book!
Music class
Keisha was not at school today and so the Cardinals created their own music class! Grant led us in! Friends played the drums and danced around. A few friends led us with some of our favorite songs and movements from music class such as Mother Sarah, Ponies, and Pop, pop, popcorn!!
After our time with music, a friend asked if the class could walk back by themselves? Soon all the Cardinals were asking, the teachers said yes but no running or loud talking in the hallways and to sit on the front rug once in the classroom. When the teacher got to the classroom we praised our incredible Cardinals for doing such big kid work!! Next, came can we do morning meeting by ourselves? The Cardinals also did an amazing job with this as well, with a little help! Tessa and I told the Cardinals you all don't need us because you're so smart and amazing that Tessa and I were going out to lunch. The teachers got their bags and pretended to leave by walking out the door. We got to Phallon's classroom and all the Cardinals came running out saying no while giggling!!!! Next came a dance party!

Thursday
Friends listening and engaging in reading aloud!
Gym class changed location this week, and brought us to the extended day room! Tessa led us in a game of What Time is it Mr. Fox?, an epic game of Duck Duck Goose, and Pop Up Tag. We ended class by doing a quick mindfulness yoga. Laying on the ground, feeling our belly breaths, we practiced intentionally feeling how each part of our bodies pushed into the floor. Finishing with a stretch, we were ready to head back to class!
