Winter Break News
Grant - Me and Clarkie made snowball fight. I go my backyard. I go skating with Clarkie and Cooper.
Evie - I went on airplane and it got me to hotel. I go to ski class. I didn't really like ski class. I got lot Hello Kitty stuff at Christmas. I got new Hello Kitty sheets my bed.
Renata - I open our presents. I got hair and clips and Bluey Star. I went for a walk. I go to New York city. I play with my brother at New York city. I drive on a plane to New York city.
Elliott - I went to Cape May with my family and I got new stuffie. I went to the trains. You can push the bottoms and the trains go. You know what, I got a remote control dune buggy. I got Snail game the same one we have at school.
Lila - So, We drive from school to the airport. We checked our bags and go up the elevator. Then we got dinner and wait a little then we got on the airplane. Grandpa picked us up in Chicago. We ate pancakes in Chicago. We went to Grandpa and Bubby's new playground and we go to the mall. I think we were there from Friday to Friday. I got chocolate coins at Hanukkah and I got to eat half of them.
Lake - I play my toys with mommy. I went Target. My cousins come to my house and we play together.
Masai - My cousin came to my house and we play outside. I got new playdough for Christmas. I got a key-tar. I play on the bouncy balls with my cousins. I went to the restaurant. I was playing block the way with my Nana. My cousin stay at my house for a very long time and we had fun.
Logan - I got a Barbie dream house for Christmas and a doll that close her eyes. I got a new bag with a phone and a purse. I play with my sister and we got Blue watch. We play with all our new toys.
Colby - I go aquarium, me and Josh and Dana and Cooper that all my family.
Aya - I was going to Disney World and I was sleeping at New Years with all my family. I play with Isa. I go my aunt Sugar house. My mom wash my hair. Yesterday, I was asking my dad to call you but he didn't.
Nat - Play trash truck. Play fire truck.
Today, we welcome Nathanel (Nat) to our Cardinal classroom! Nat is the brother of John who is in the Catbirds classroom. Welcome, Nat to our Cardinal class!!
The Cardinals really enjoyed seeing and being back with each other today! Our room was filled with lots of love and joy as we gathered back together!!
Johanna wished friends a Happy New Year as she entered our classroom. Today Johanna brought art class to our classroom. She gave out white boards and dry erase markers. Friends practice drawing the first letter of their name. The Cardinals then moved to tables and chose what color folded paper they wanted to work with. Friends first drew the first letter of their name again but this time they used small stickers to outline it. Next, friends opened up their paper and drew on the inside!
Tuesday
Alicia welcomed us into Spanish class with hugs and wishes for a happy New Year! After our greeting, Alicia read us the book Three Kings Day. She told us about a special event that will happen this Friday, January 9th. Alicia said the entire AFS community will celebrate Three Kings Day, if they want too. Alicia told us that most Spanish speaking countries celebrate Three Kings Day and in part of the celebration people leave their shoes outside to receive special gifts. The Cardinals were very excited when Alicia said that if friends wanted to. They too could leave their shoes outside the classroom to celebrate. The Cardinals had much to say and made many connections. Today it was Finley's turn to squeeze la vaca!

Wednesday
Self-portraits continues
The Cardinals listened intently as Ashanti read the books, No Room For A Puppy by Elizabeth Suneby and If You Give Moose a Muffin by Laura Numeroff. Each friend then chose and checked out a book to bring back to our classroom!
Logan led us into music class. The Cardinals dance with scarves and egg shakers as they listen to Leap frog by Jazzy Ash. We then had a moment of silence followed by warming up our voices with Hooty the Owl. As Keisha played her guitar the Cardinals sang our song Jambo! Keisha then went over the different voices we used in music class such as speaking, whispering, talking, loud and our singing voice! Today we learned a new song called All Around the Kitchen by Dan Zane and some actions that went along with the song such as tipped toeing, jumping, sliding, and running. We also sang and danced to See the Ponies Galloping Down the Country Lane.
Thursday
Friends working on their first Journal entry for 2026 titled, "What did you do over Winter Break?"
Our focus in gym class with Josh and Tiffany was on different forms of balancing in stations.
Friday
Today was our special all school celebration of Three Kings Day. All lower school students that wanted to participate in taking off their shoes and placing them outside their classroom door. Friends then carried on with their work inside the classrooms with the doors closed. After 20 minutes students went out and got their shoes. A sweet treat and other goodies were left inside. The Cardinals were very excited about their special treats. Each Cardinals has their special treats in their bag to bring home! The Cardinals enjoyed walking around for a while with no shoes!!
Art Activity and Choice Time
Lake celebrated her 5th birthday before Winter break. She brought in cupcakes to share with her friends! Lake's Mom, dad, grandmom and baby sister came to celebrate as well! Lake's grandmom read us the book Under the Lemon Moon by Edith Hope Fine. Thank you, Lake, for sharing your family with us! Thank you, Dominque, David, Rain and grandmom for spending time with us!
