The Cardinals working on a journal entry titled, "What do you like to do in the snow? Why?".

Ashanti read us the books The Hula-Hooping Queen by Thelma Lynne Godin. At the end of the book, Ashanti had the Cardinals stand up. She then taught friends how to snap their fingers and the motions of how to hula hoop! Each friend soon picked and checked out a book!! Ask your Cardinal what did you like about the book, Ashanti read?

Keisha was out today and so the Cardinals created their own music class! We sang our favorite music class song and made some groovy dance movements!

Thursday

                          Friends continuing their journal work.

The Cardinals worked on balance, focus, self-patiences, and determination as they manipulated balls and frisbees. Friends worked collaboratively as they individually helped to make a giant Cardinal pizza by balancing a ball on a frisbee and walking across the gym to place it in a hula hoop. Friends decided what kind and how many toppings they wanted on the pizza. They also sorted the balls while doing this task. Ask your Cardinal how did you make pizza in gym class today?

After Gym class we came back and had some nice warm hot chocolate!! Our Cardinals really enjoyed this treat!

Soon, we were off to our next thing: a science project. Friends choose a container, add water and pick two objects to go inside their container. After each friend made a prediction as to whether their object would sink or float. We put them outside and will wait and see if anything  happens to them overnight!

Here is what some friends had to say as we talked about what we were going to do.

Colby - It will melt in the grass.

Grant - The ice going melt the animals.

Nat - Snow outside.

Lila - We might be scientists.

Simone -  Well, it may get ice

Elliott - This going be so fun.

Renata - If we put it outside it's so cold it will freeze.

Masai - It will sink because the ice will be super heavy.

Finley - Well, the water turns to ice and the snow melts away cause it turns to water.

Friends choosing objects and making predictions:

Elliott - 2 pom-poms - they will sink

Renata - Panda and Pom-pom - Pom-pom will sink and Panda will float.

Nat - 2 pom-pom - pom-pom float

Aya - 2 pom-pom - I got two different kinds pink, one dark and one light.

Lila - 1 pom-pom and a Seal - this pom pom will definitely float and the Seal will sink cause one's is heavy and one light.

Grant - Seahorse and Polar bear - Seahorse float, Polar bear sink

Evie - Pom-pom and Cheetah - pom-pom float, Cheetah will standing

Lake - Cheetah and Pom-pom - Pom-pom will float and cheetah will sink

Colby - Hippo and Tiger - Hippo and Tiger will sink

Logan - 2  Pom - yellow will sink, orange will float

Masai -  Pom-pom and Cheetah - both small so they will sink.

Finley - Bear and pom-pom - Bear will sink and the pom-pom

Simone - Moose and Pow-pom - Moose will sink and pom-pom will sink

Friends looking at our experiment out the window!

Friday

The Cardinals were very eager to take a close look at their experiment from yesterday. We brought them inside and after about two hours. The Cardinals were asked to go take another look at our experiment.  A friend announced, "They got watery." We then asked each Cardinal, "How did the water get on them?" Here is what friends had to say:

Finley - Some warm got in it cause it was inside here.

Logan - It's sit out a bit longer.

Colby - Because it falling out sky like rain.

Aya - I don't know.

Renata - The water just squeeze out the ice.

Grant - Cause it snow.

Simone - The water was just a little bit of heat.

Elliott - Water comes from snow.

Nat - Water jump in the pan.

Lake - Cause the sun melt it outside.

Evie - It just got water in it.

Masai - Well, it get water because there is heat inside the room.

Lila - If heat touches ice, ice turns into water.

We took our experiment to the tables to take a closer look. We ask the Cardinals, "What do you see and think?
Elliott - This thing all the way down in the ice.
Grant - Super cold.
Lila - The shape of animals print in ice is really cool.
Evie - When I look low can't see all the body. When I look up top can see all of it.
Masai - The pom-pom stay down and the cheetah was up.
Simone - It is little.
Colby - It heavy.
Lake - I think it's pretty.
Aya - I think the eyes are looking at me, it's funny. It's cold, we have fun.
Nat - It cold.
Logan - Super super cold.
Finley - My bear and pom-pom are really stuck in there. I need work really hard and get them out.
Renata - I like that the face is looking at me cause it sees me.

We soon asked the Cardinals, "How are we going to get them out?. Friends had many great suggestions such as a hammer, it just needs to melt and break it. We then told our Cardinals to go to the block area and get a block that might help you break the ice but not the really big blocks (someone could get hit).

Friends noticed the different sizes and shapes of the ice and how the pom-poms looked really big in the ice.

And then, they were four left chiseling away!!

                       Have a nice weekend!!
