Art class with Johana began with a discussion about the type of movements we would be using for today's project. Using oil pastel the Cardinals would use big loose movements like an elephant. We discussed visuals like a roller coaster walk, side to side like an airplane, and sliding up and down in diagonal motions.

Once we created our line drawing with the oil pastel. The Cardinals were instructed to paint each shape they made in their drawing with watercolor paint, being careful to keep the paint inside that shape.

A few Cardinals shared their thoughts about what they saw in their artwork.

"It looks like a giant quilt!" -Finley

"It looks like a roller coaster!" -Colby

"It looked like a roller coaster, but now it looks like a dance studio wall art." -Lila

Today the Cardinals participated in a letter hunt literacy activity. In which uppercase letters were placed on or under a table or in a chair at the back of the classroom. Each friend, one at a time, got a chance to pick a letter of their choice, bring it back to the group, say what letter it was and the sound it makes. If a friend was not able to do any of the above another friend or friends worked together to help. Friends were also challenged to say a word or three that their letter began with. When this work was finished, we used the letters to see how many words we could create. We worked together and came up with 19 words! Great Job Cardinals!!

Today we celebrate Simone's 4th birthday! Her dad Daniel came to highlight Simone's special day with us! He read us some rhymes that had the Cardinals laughing. Friends got the chance to share words to help Daniel make up more rhymes! Soon, they were off to do an activity of coloring and using stickers. Followed by singing happy birthday and eating cupcakes. Thank you, Simone, for sharing your dad and your special day with us. Thank you, Daniel, for reading and creating rhymes with us.  Enjoy the rest of your special day Simone!!

In Spanish class the Cardinals first greeted each other in Spanish. Alicia explained an activity for next week in which the Cardinals are going to create a Persona with white paper. They are also going to paint them based on their skin color and add clothing. The Cardinals played a swatters game with flashcards that had clothing. Today la vaca was pressed by Renata!

Back in our classroom, friends were placed in groups based on what they wanted to learn more about. We checked out books from the library to learn more details, facts and to explore. As the weeks go by, we will continue to dive into each friend's study and end-up with friends creating their very own study habitat!

Wednesday

After our silence activity during meeting for worship time. We asked each Cardinal to take a few minutes and look at what we created with the wooden blocks. This time we asked friends to stand up and share their thoughts!! Here is what friends had to say:

Finley - Looks like Philadelphia. I think a volcano cause I see a circle.

Masai - A museum. A mouse in the triangle with the big X.

Renata - Rainbow water with a Mermaid in it.

Nat - A house.

Lake - A castle house , it has all of the stuff I have and it's so fun.

Evie - A cloud. A slide we can ride on.

Ashanti read us the book Saturday by Oge Mora. This book was about a little girl and her mom who look forward to Saturdays as their special day of taking their time, going slow and doing special things. The next book was called Kick Push by Frank Marr.  This book was about a little boy who moved to a new neighborhood and was trying really hard to fit in and make friends. However, in the end he realized that he didn't need to try so hard because the kids saw how cool and amazing he was! Soon it was time for friends to choose and pick out a book to bring back to our classroom!

Keisha led us into music class, grooving to Mardi Gras Mambo by Buckwheat Zydeco! Once our dance party was complete Keisha conducted our little cow finger play game. Next, we sang and acted out 3 songs with our scarves, Little Johnny Brown, Popcorn, and Where is ... Little Johnny Brown begins with spreading your comfort (scarf) down on the ground, then friends practice different actions around their scarf like walking, tiptoeing, jumping, walking like a buzzard, and falling asleep. Popcorn starts with a flat scarf on the ground and adding the oil to the pot, then sizzling with the scarf up up up until finally it POPS up into the air! Where is... (the Cardinals names) begins with all the Cardinals in a circle, covering their head with their scarf. Each friend gets a turn to peek-a-boo out of their scarf once we ask where they are. Finally we ended music class with our Owl Moon song. The owls must be quiet, make their own heat, be brave, and have hope under the Owl Moon!

Back in our classroom, friends worked on decorating their Valentine's/ kindness bags!

Thursday

The Cardinals were VERY excited to wear their pajamas to school today!!  Friends had conversations about: who had the same, long or short sleeves, who has the same pjs at home and so on!!

The Cardinals had many giggles going to gym class in their pajamas!! Friends ran into class and were ready to get moving! Today's class was a choice class in which friends ran around exploring with hula hoops, soft frisbees and soft balls the size of a basketballs!

Special snack: Thanks to our Cardinal Families!!

After gym class friends two at a time placed their Valentine's/Kindness treats in their special decorated bags!!
