The Cardinals worked with clay in art class today. Friends explored the feel and texture of the clay. We used prints, seashells and tools to create fossils with red clay. Ask your Cardinal how did the clay felt and looked?
After snack time and morning meeting, friends worked on a journal entry titled, "What did you do over Thanksgiving Break?"
Tuesday
Spanish class with Alicia began with saying hola at the door. After our morning work in Spanish such as a moment of silence, Calendar and the hundred chart work. The Cardinals were then very excited as Alicia told friends. We are going to play bingo by finding our body parts in Spanish! Friends choose to play by themselves or with another friends. Today is was Elliott's turn to squeeze la vaca!
Wednesday
The Cardinals listen as Ashanti read the books, Penguin Problems by Jory John and The Mightiest by Keiko Kasza. Friends then chose and checked out a book to bring back to our classroom! Ask your Cardinal which book they choose?
Aya led us into music class today. The Cardinals warmed up to Swing Thing by Fire For Fighting as they listened and danced with scarves and shaker eggs. Friends used their singing voices to sing Jambo while Keisha played her guitar. The Cardinals then continue to practice for our EC/K Winter Program which is on 12/19/25 at 10:45 am here at AFS.
Thursday
The Cardinals engaged in a math workshop in which all the activities were math related. We read the book Counting 1 to 10 Math Every Day by Daniel Nunn. Friends worked two at a time or one on one with a teacher. We worked on number recognition, one-to-one number correspondences, counting in correct number order and writing numbers. While friends waited for a turn they explored with floor number puzzles. The Cardinals worked together to figure out the next number in order to complete these puzzles!
Our focus in gym class was on coordination, focus, team work, and throwing skills with soft balls. Friends worked with big balls - kicking and running, hula hoops - rolling them while running alongside, frisbees - throwing to see how far friends can make them go, and trying to shoot a basketball into the basketball hoops! Ask your Cardinal what they like most in gym class?

Erica, our lower school learning specialist, worked with a couple small groups today. While some friends worked with Erica, other friends listened to read aloud and made predictions, answered questions and recalled information based on the stories. The Cardinals all know that they will get several chance to work with Erica as the purpose of this work is in small groups or one on one with a teacher!
Our Cardinals have been working on playing the board game Snail Pace. Friends are really understanding the rules and concepts of this game. Today, we added Candy Land and Connect Four to explore. What a fun time we had! These games are cooperative, interactive and help to foster turn taking, rule following, concepts of team playing, memory, independence, cognitive, language and confidence skills. Ask your Cardinal what did you like about playing board games?
Before Thanksgiving break, we celebrated Grant's birthday. He brought in cupcakes to share! Grant's mom Brigitte read us the book, How to Find Gold by Viviane Schwarz. Grant is 4 years old! Thank you, Grant, for sharing your birthday and your mom with us! Thank you, Brigitte, for reading to us!
