Journal Work, Shaving Cream Fun, Sign of Fall Walk and More...

 Monday

Johanna asked friends to take a close look at the colors on each page  as she showed them. Friends were encouraged to take a minute to look before saying what colors stand out to them! Next friends came to a table, Johanna began to tell friends about the materials they were going to be working with. She introduced the word paint palette and friends repeated it! Johanna continued to say the paint colors we would be working with, red, yellow and blue. A friend announced, "Those are primary color." Johanna replied, "Yes, they are." The Cardinals also worked with paint brushes, paint stamps, paint sponge and white paper. Our Cardinals were very focused as they worked on their creations. They also noticed that when the paint was mixed it changed to another color. Ask your Cardinal what did you create in art class?

The Cardinals eating their lemon water from Friday as a group!! Friends were very excited and reminded their teachers about the special treat!!

The Cardinal enjoyed playing with shaving cream and animals before heading downstairs for some large motor fun on this rainy Monday!

Tuesday

The Cardinals working on their first Journal entry for this school year! What are Journals? A question is asked at the top of each journal paper. Today's question was "What do you like to do at school?" While working on our journals, friends drew a picture of what they like to do at school, followed by each friend giving detailed dictation to a teacher about what they drew. As the year progresses, we will begin the process of working with the older friends and friends who are ready to begin kid-writing. Kid-writing is when friends work with a teacher one on one, saying what they want to write about, a teacher then stretches each word out and friends write the letters they hear. The journal books will come home at the end of the school year!

In Spanish class, the Cardinals worked on colors, played a game of swatter and found colors around the room as Alicia called them out! Today it was Renata's turn to squeeze la vaca!

Colby's mom (Dana) and dad (Josh) came to celebrate Colby's 4th birthday. Dana read the book Elbow Grease by John Cena. The Cardinals were very captivated by this book and Dana used different tones of voice as she read!!  Josh read How Do Dinosaurs Say Happy Birthday by Jane Yolen & Mark Teague, which had the Cardinals giggling throughout the book! Colby also brought in mini muffins to share with his friends! Thank you, Colby for celebrating your special day with us and for sharing your mom and dad! Thank you, Dana and Josh, for reading to us!!

                                 Happy 4th Birthday Colby!!

After acting out and listening to Sharks in the Water by Dani Go. It was soon time to head outside for some large motor fun !!

Wednesday

                                 Journal work continues

After returning our library books from last week, Michelle read us the books Six Little Sticks by Tiffany Stone & Ruth Hengeveld and There was an Old Monster by Rebecca, Adrian & Ed Emberley. The Cardinal loved and enjoyed these books and were very engaged with many questions and comments! Ask your Cardinals what did you like most about the books?

Music class began with Elliott leading us in. We danced with egg shakers and scarves as we warmed up to the song Chicken Nuggets Dreamland by Perry Gripp. The Cardinals took part in a moment of silence. Followed by us warming up our singing voices with hooty the Owl as we sang our hello song Jambo. We then sang and did the movements for There's A Cobbler Down The Street, Five Little Pumpkins, See the Ponies, Jack in a Box and Peace Like a River!! Ask your Cardinal to show you the movement for Peace like a River or any of the other songs above?

Thursday

Our Cardinals looking at a Cardinal bird in a tree outside our classroom!!

Gym class began with Josh and Tiffany telling the Cardinals. Today's focus will be on listening, following direction and manipulating objects. Friends worked with buckets and small and medium soft balls. The Cardinals worked on tossing the ball under hand into a bucket. Friends started out close to the bucket but after a few tosses. They made two steps backward to see how far they could go and still get the ball into the bucket! Friends also practice throwing the ball up and catching it with the bucket! Towards the end of class friends got some time to explore anyway they choose. Ask your Cardinal what did you do in gym class today!!

This morning was a bit chilly even with the sun out. After gym class we took a walk looking for Signs of Fall. Here is what our Cardinal notice:

Simone - I see red leaves and different colors.

Friday

                                       Choice time

Alicia read us the book Isabel and Her Colores Go to School by Alexandra Alessandri.  The book was about a little girl who only spoke Spanish! She was very nervous because she was afraid no one would understand her when she spoke at school. Isabel soon found out that all she needed to do was to be  herself!!  She met a new friends name Sara and discovers there's more that on way to communicate with new friends and learns to embrace all the colors of her story!!

The Cardinals did Camina  Camina(Walk walk) friends walked around the classroom and then Alicia said para (stop). This time Alicia called on friends one at a time to give her a color in Spanish for the other friends to find around the room! Our Cardinals were so amazing!! Today it was Evie's turn to squeeze la vaca!
