Art Class

Johanna began class by asking friends, "Can you plant a rainbow". The Cardinals had much to say such as: No you can't plant a rainbow but you can draw it, I plant carrots before, You could plant different color flowers and make a rainbow, I plant mushrooms at my house, I plant a sprout from science night and it's growing already. I plant cucumber at my house. Johanna then read us the book, Planting a Rainbow by Lois Ehlert. Followed by all friends coming over to the table and Johanna showed them how they could draw a flower. The Cardinals then called out the different shapes they could make to create their flowers. Johanna introduced a shape within a shape for example a circle with a square or even a triangle inside. Friends then work to create their very own rainbow garden! Next steps to this work will continue in our next art class. Stay tuned!

                                     More habitat work

The Cardinals had a short rest time, followed by meeting their second grade buddies in Alicia's Spanish room to do a project together. The Cardinals along with their buddies worked to create the animals the Cardinals are studying. Friends used model magic to detail their animals! As friends work much giggles and laughter could be heard! Stay tuned for next steps!

Tuesday

Spanish Class

The Cardinals worked on their animals studies bingo cards in Espanol! They worked in groups of 2 or 3 to find the correct animal Alicia calls out and when everyone fills their card, BINGO! Today it was Evie's turn to squeeze la vaca!

Friends working on their May self-portraits!

                                 Enjoying a picnic lunch!

Wednesday

Early this morning friends helped make our special banana chocolate chip bread! Our Cardinals from last year (they made this bread before) as well as our new Cardinals were very eager to participate in the process of making the banana bread! We divided into two groups and together we made 4 loaves of banana bread! Friends helped measure ingredients, peeled and mashed bananas, grease pans, mixed and stirred ingredients into the batter. We took them down to the cafeteria for chef Josh to bake for us! And out came our delicious looking and smelling banana bread which had the hallways smelling so good! The Cardinals enjoyed eating this bread and already asked to make it again! We also shared our banana bread with our resource teachers, Andrea, Tonya and the cafeteria staff! Ask your Cardinal what they did to help make our banana bread? and "How did it taste?"

Library Class

Friends listen as Michelle read the books Emeka, Eat Edusi! by Candice LLoh and Caps For Sale by Esphyr Slobodkina followed by the Cardinals choosing and checking out a book!

Music class

Logan led us into the music room. After playing the drums, dancing with scarves while listening to Rockit by Herbie Hancock we sang our hello song. We began practicing for our Spring Program which is on June 5th at10:45 am.

Thursday

Elliott's dad reads a book as a friend and Elliott listens in this morning at drop off!

Finley's mom Maryrose and dad Matt came and read the Polar Express. As Maryrose read the Cardinals were very engaged with this book and had much to say! Finley handed out a coloring page with a bell and friends were eager to color. As friends colored some broke out in singing Jingle Bells and soon most of the class were singing it!! Matt also read Dog vs Strawberry to a few friends, that was just as great as the first book. Matt had friends and teachers giggling/smiling as he used an animated voice while reading! Thank you, Finley, for sharing your mom and dad with us! Thank you, Matt and Maryrose for spending time with us!!

Gym Class

Today in class the Cardinals were scootertastic! First we practiced using the scooters on our own, pushing forwards, backwards, and spinning. Then we got to practice our team building skills by scootering with a friend back to back. Finally, we tried side by side with a friend holding on to the opposite scooter! And of course, ended class with a round of pop up tag!

Friday

Some Cardinals worked with Erica, while other Cardinals worked in the classroom with teachers. Today's work was on literacy, friends worked on upper and lowercase letter recognition, letter sounds and the AT family.
